The Holstein Friesen, known as the Holstein in North America and the Friesen in the United Kingdom and Ireland, is a breed of dairy cattle that dates back almost 2,000 years to North Holland and Friesland and Schleswig-Holstein in North Germany. This breed of cow has the highest milk production among all lactating animals in the world.
The Holstein Friesen breed is the result of the efforts of Dutch and German ranchers who sought to obtain cows that could make the most of their forage consumption.
